Dates, one of the best fruit you should break your fast with during Ramadan which are mostly grown in the Middle East, the fruit is grown on a Dates palm tree and it should be no surprise that they thrive only in hot dry climates, for this reason, the Tree can only produce fruit in the Northern part of Nigeria and also North Africa and Middle East.
That is why it is sold here in Nigeria only by the Northerners.

It is a Sunnah (the ways of the Prophet Muhammed Peace be upon him) to break your fast with Dates as Narrated by Anas bin Malik, “The Prophet (peace be upon him and his followers) use to break his fast before offering the Magrib prayer with some fresh dates, if he did not get any then dried ones, and in failing that too, he would drink a few mouthfuls of water.”
There are several ways of consuming Dates which are
- Mixing the paste with Milk
- Mixing the Paste with Yogurt
- Using the paste as a bread spread instead of jam or butter
- Eating it with water.
